Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Clears 14,000-15,000 Government Posts: Approval Announced, Applications Not Open

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on 10 October, has approved around 14,000 to 15,000 government posts across departments. This is a cabinet approval — not an open recruitment drive — so no applications, deadlines, or links have been announced yet.

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Saturday approved around 14,000 to 15,000 government posts across various departments — but this is an approval, not an open recruitment drive. No application forms, deadlines, or application links have been announced yet, and nobody should apply anywhere on the strength of this news alone.

Why it matters

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on 10 October, ran for nearly six hours and took up almost 200 agenda items. Briefing the media afterwards, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said the government had taken a major step towards fulfilling its commitment to provide government jobs to the state's youth. He said the government had provided employment to approximately 32,000 people so far, while recruitment for another 18,000 posts was at various stages, including interviews and other selection procedures. The government aims to fill around 50,000 posts by the end of the year, he added.

The decision was reported by Asianet Newsable and The Tribune, with Edex Live corroborating the education numbers.

Key details

The approved posts are spread across departments, with the largest shares in water, education, and health:

  • Jal Shakti (water): 4,090 para-workers, including Para Pump Operators, Para Fitters and Multipurpose Workers for rural water schemes.
  • School education: 3,900 teaching and 900 non-teaching posts for 100 state-run schools being affiliated to the CBSE, under a new scheme-based recruitment system for which a framework will be developed.
  • Higher education: 320 Assistant Professor posts (college cadre) to clear backlogs, plus 120 Assistant Craft Instructors and 40 Assistant Lecturers for polytechnics.
  • Health: 500 Assistant Staff Nurses; 30 Radiologists, 13 Clinical Psychologists and 6 Perfusionists in medical education; 24 Medical Officers.
  • Other departments: 500 Assistant Forest Guards, 172 multi-task workers in the Public Works Department, 116 posts in Animal Husbandry, 57 posts for the upcoming international-level zoo at Bankhandi in Kangra district, and 29 Junior Office Assistants appointed on compassionate grounds.

The same cabinet meeting also doubled the milk producer incentive to Rs 6 per litre and approved a reward of Rs 1 crore each for four Himachal Pradesh women kabaddi players who won gold at the international level. A Chief Minister's Office post on 17 October confirmed the recruitments are proceeding — a confirmation of the same 10 October decision, not a separate new batch.

What to do next

Do not apply anywhere yet. No notification, application window, or eligibility list has been issued for these posts, so there is nothing real to apply to right now. The only places to watch are the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and the individual departmental portals, where the actual recruitment notices will appear.

Treat any forwarded "application link" on WhatsApp or Telegram as unofficial. Any agent demanding money for these posts is running a scam — genuine government recruitment never charges a fee to apply.

For readers in Nepal: this is news about a neighbouring hill state, not an opportunity. Indian state government posts carry domicile requirements, so Nepali citizens cannot apply to them. Read this as a signal of how big-state hiring is moving — useful context, nothing more.

Takeaway

The approval is real and large, and the government says it wants the recruitment finished by March. But approvals are not advertisements: until HPPSC or a department publishes a notice, there is no deadline to meet and no form to fill. Check our Asia coverage for the notices when they land.
